As you know, just before the picnic we squeeze in the Breakfast Talk session at 10 AM. It is always fun and honest.

At the previous picnic, we had Max Lichaba. Before then we had Irfan Pardesi.

This time the Breakfast Talk session  @ 10 AM will feature a panel dissecting the real struggles and anxieties that come with entrepreneurship – the stuff that is kept hush-hush.

The panel includes: Lunga Ncala – Startup Picnic MC, broadcaster, #RideAbuse founder/cyclist and marketer; Tendai Joe – Tendai Joe is a Zimbabwean born, Pretoria based digital publisher and tech entrepreneur; Mark Makhubalo – entrepreneur in mining, property, entertainment and consulting; Kelahloko Mashiloane – geologist turned business and leadership consultant, founder of K-Elixir Consulting; Tebatso Molapo is a social media marketing entrepreneur and founder of Re Basadi (www.rebasadi.co.za) – which focuses on the empowerment of young female entrepreneurs through events & digital content.

Fresh off the cover of the March 2018 Entrepreneur magazine issue – where he shares his “Zero to R120 Million” journey, we are pleased to announce Max Lichaba as STARTUP PICNIC 7 April 2018 #BreakfastTalk guest.

Max Lichaba is the founder of Lichaba Creations and the popular Kwa Lichaba Chesanyama in Soweto Vilakazi Street.

African Tech Startups Raised Funding in Excess of $185.7m in 2015

According to the DISRUPT AFRICA AFRICAN TECH STARTUPS FUNDING REPORT 2015, launched today, 125 tech startups raised funding in 2015 around the African continent, to the tune of US$185,785,500.

South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya proved investors’ favoured destinations in 2015; with 36 per cent of the startups that raised funding based in South Africa, 24 per cent in Nigeria, and Kenya in third place with 14.4 per cent of deals.

The top three highest amounts of funding also went to these three locations. South African startups raised in excess of US$54,568,000 throughout the year; Nigerian startups received over US$49,404,000; and Kenyan startups brought home over US$47,365,000.
